The Belt and Road Initiative has greatly expanded and deepened the scientific research cooperation with countries and regions along the routes.

The joint studies on some key challenges and issues appearing in their development are conducive to the forming of a new type of cooperation system between China and these countries and regions, said Bai Chunli, head of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

It is the duty-bound obligation and responsibility of CAS to use its advantages in international exchanges and cooperation channels to provide science and technology guarantees and services to the Belt and Road Initiative, Bai added.

Early this year, CAS founded its innovation cooperation center in Bangkok, the first of its kind that promotes innovation transfer and transformation between countries, according to Jiang Biao, director of the center.

"The center is expected to introduce more enterprises, institutes and universities affiliated with CAS to merge into the ASEAN economies' development at a deep level," Jiang said.

The center signed a cooperation agreement with agricultural enterprises from Zhangye, northwest China's Gansu province, to introduce Zhangye's experience and expertise in the balanced development of animal husbandry and agriculture.

In July, paleontologists from China and Iran claimed they discovered the footprints of a rare breed of dinosaur in the north of Iran dating back to the middle of the Jurassic Period, which corresponds with the fossil records found in central China.
