The Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative is a great contribution by China and the Chinese people to the world, said Nguyen Ngoc Truong, president of the Hanoi-based Center for Strategic Studies and International Development.
Truong made the remarks on a symposium titled "B&R: New Opportunities for Vietnam-China Cooperation" on August 25.
The symposium was jointly held by the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. It has attracted many scholars, business and media representatives from both China and Vietnam. The participants have discussed a series of issues, including how to connect the B&R with Vietnam's "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle" plan and how to enhance people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
Le Hai Binh, vice president of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, said that they welcome and support China's initiatives which are bringing about peace, stability, prosperity to the region and the world. Vietnam hopes to work with China to promote the B&R Initiative.
Quach Quang Hong, doctor at the Strategic Study Institute of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, believed that the B&R Initiative is in line with the development trend of international cooperation and thus has been widely recognized by the whole world. In his opinion, the Initiative has achieved a lot of tangible results in promoting interconnection of Asia and Europe, and deepening cooperation at multiple levels.
Yin Haihong, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, said that promoting China-Vietnam cooperation under the B&R is just at the right time. She hoped that the two countries will make concrete progress in cooperation under the B&R Initiative as soon as possible on the basis of mutual trust and complementary advantages.
Zhou Fangyin, professor of the Guangdong Institute for International Strategies, commented that the cooperation of China and Vietnam within the B&R framework will boost modernization of the two countries and build a stronger foundation for growth of bilateral relations.
