The Gyirong-Rasuwa Port is now open to third countries on August 30, marking the strengthening of economic and trade ties between China and Nepal.
Nepal has over a 1,000 year friendly relationship with China, and is a traditional trading partner with the Tibet Autonomous Region, which has now become a land gateway to South Asia.
About 90 percent of Tibet's exports goes to Nepal.
The State Council, China's Cabinet, approved Gyirong as an international land port in May 2015. The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation under the proposal of Belt and Road Initiative in May this year.
Tibetan enterprises also signed an agreement with Nepal to build the China-Nepal Friendship Industrial Park and Tibetan cultural tourism industrial park.
Zhou hui, vice-director of the Tibet commerce bureau, said the autonomous region will pay greater attention to developing border trade, processing industry trade and regional trade, actively support logistics, storage, tourism and the service industries. Zhou said Tibet hopes to establish a cross-border economic cooperation zone with Nepal in the future.
