Tokyo stocks open sharply lower amid global rout on trade concerns

TOKYO, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower on Tuesday with markets here following on from a global equities rout triggered by rising concerns over trade issues.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 569.55 points, or 2.75 percent, from Monday to 20,150.74.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 38.41 points, or 2.55 percent, at 1,467.47.

Farm and fishery, oil and coal product, and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
