The official statistical figures showed that Romania has an economic growth driven by production and exports, Minister of Economy Mihai Fifor told a press conference on Thursday.
Romania didn't have such an economic growth, to be based on production and exports, for a long time, the minister said in his working visit in Ploiesti, some 65 km north of the capital city of Bucharest.
"Analysts who are always jumping to say that Romania does not have a sound economic growth have been contradicted by the figures," said the minister, criticizing the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank which insisted that "Romania has a problem," and even called the country's economy a "disaster."
Yet, their affirmations have always been contradicted by the economic growth of the country, said the minister.
The minister also refuted such claims of some analysts saying that the current economic growth is based on consumption and won't be beneficial for the country in the long run.
The country cannot have one of the largest economic growths in Europe only due to consumption, said Fifor, stressing that "this kind of approach only proves bad faith."
"This is a sustainable economic growth, hence a sound one. The measures took by our government during its eight months at the helm produce now their effects," added Fifor.
Romania's GDP was up 5.8 percent in unadjusted terms in the first half of 2017 from the same period of the year before, the National Statistics Institute announced Wednesday.
