Lyu Jian, China's ambassador to Thailand, signed a framework convention on paperless trade facilitation in the Asia-Pacific region with the commercial ministers of Bangladesh and Cambodia in Bangkok on August 29.
The aim of the convention is to promote the digitalization of trade data and files to improve the efficiency and transparency of international trade.
Representatives of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and the trade departments of Thailand, Pakistan, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea witnessed the signing ceremony and expressed their support for the convention, which was passed by the ESCAP last year.
Lyu Jian said the signing of the convention is an important step forward in trade facilitation in the region.
China started paperless customs clearance in August 2012 and the paperless practice started covering all customs in April 2014.
