Spain's public debt rose to close to 1.14 billion euros during June and is now the equivalent of 100.3 percent of the country's gross national product (GNP), according to data published by the ministry of economy, industry and competitiveness on Thursday.
This is the highest level in absolute terms since the current monthly measure of government debt was published in the current manner in 1995.
The total debt is 1.24 percent higher than in May 2017 and 2.9 percent higher than June 2016, although the ministry of economy calculates that Spain should close 2017 with a debt of around 98.8 percent of GNP.
