Indonesia is keen to see more visitors from Vietnam with the direct flight opening from Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) to Jakarta scheduled in December, an Indonesian minister said Thursday.
The opening of the direct flights of Vietnam's budget airlines Vietjet Air would not only bring Vietnam national visitors but also visitors from other nationalities visiting the country, Indonesian Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said here.
"With 24 percent growth, Vietnam's tourism industry is one of the fastest-growing ones among ASEAN countries besides Indonesia. The two nations were listed among 20 fastest growing countries in the world's tourism industry as well," Arief said to welcome the planned direct flight opening.
The tourism ministry learned that arrivals of visitors from Vietnam have been increasing in the last few years with around 60,000 ones recorded throughout in 2016 from 44,000 ones recorded in 2015.
VietJet Air Commercial Vice Director Jay L. Lingeswara said the airlines has been targeting Indonesia for its huge business potentialities.
Vietjet Air planned HCMC-Jakarta direct flight service would add to the existing one served by Vietnam Airlines which serves once a day.
