TOKYO, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday as the yen's retreat in early trade lifted exporters although its rise after the Bank of Japan left its monetary policy unchanged dampened sentiment and trimmed gains.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 92.51 points, or 0.43 percent, from Monday to close the day at 21,709.31.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 7.01 points, or 0.45 percent, to finish at 1,575.58.

Electric appliance, electric power and gas, and food-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
