Canadian stock market ends higher

TORONTO, Dec.28 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock market continued up Friday due to gains in the energy sector for a second day.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index rose 56.79 points, or 0.40 percent, to close the day at 14,222.00 points.

The Canadian dollar was down 0.19 cents to 0.7322 U.S. dollar.

On the market, 176 issues rose and 59 fell. There were two new highs and no new lows, with total volume of 266.4 million shares.

The energy group rose 2.02 points, or 1.50 percent while the financials sector climbed 1.16 points, or 0.43 percent.

Among the energy stocks, Canadian Natural Resources gained 56 cents to 32.83 Canadian dollars while Imperial Oil added 20 cents to 34.94 Canadian dollars.

Aphria shares galloped 97 cents to 8.54 Canadian dollars while Bausch Health Companies added 33 cents to 25.60 Canadian dollars.

Barrick Gold jettisoned 71 cents to 17.97 Canadian dollars while Kinross Gold fell a penny to 4.38 Canadian dollars.

First Majestic Silver Corp fell 24 cents to 7.86 Canadian dollars while Agnico Eagle Mines eased 56 cents to 55.10 Canadian dollars.
