CHICAGO, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Gold futures on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange settled slightly higher on Tuesday as investors awaited U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's testimony on monetary policy.

Investors are looking forward to the semiannual testimony of Fed Chairman Jerome Powell over the next two days in efforts to search for more signals for further rate cut moves. Powell is scheduled to testify in front of the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday.

The most active gold contract for August delivery went up 0.50 dollar, or 0.04 percent, to close at 1,400.50 U.S. dollars per ounce.

During the previous session, August gold fell only a dime, or 0.01 percent, which also reflected the wait-and-see approach in the market.

As for other precious metals, silver for September delivery was up 9.75 cents, or 0.64 percent to close at 15.147 dollars per ounce. Platinum for October delivery was down 5.30 dollars, or 0.65 percent, to settle at 815.10 dollars per ounce. Enditem
