NANJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. manufacturing giant Jabil is expanding its investment and R&D capabilities in China to tap into the enormous opportunities of the country's 5G market.

It launched a new 5G intelligent manufacturing innovation center in Wuxi, east China's Jiangsu Province earlier this month and will develop a complete industry chain with the center's design, R&D, maintenance and industrial application functions.

The center will offer strong technical support to Jabil's 5G business development, and Jabil will continue expanding its investment in Wuxi, said Alessandro Parimbelli, executive vice president of the Florida-based firm.

The innovation facility is expected to further beef up Jabil's R&D forces in China. In March, the Jabil Circuit Cloud and RF Technology R&D Center was unveiled in Wuxi with a 300-strong staff to enhance its edge in manufacturing 5G communication equipment.

The presence of Jabil, one of the world's largest providers of electronic manufacturing services, in the Chinese market can be traced further. The Wuxi subsidiary was founded in 2004 and has become one of the company's largest 5G intelligent manufacturing bases in the world. Revenue of Jabil Circuit (Wuxi) Co. Ltd. reached nearly 16 billion yuan (about 2.2 billion U.S. dollars) last year.

Jabil will build more intelligent workshops and provide more jobs of high-tech skills in Wuxi, Parimbelli said, adding that he looks forward to achieving more mutual benefit and win-win results.

The 5G-related manufacturing business is predicted to generate 200 million dollars of revenue for Jabil this year.
