Turkey's economy up 5.2 pct in Q2

ISTANBUL, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish economy grew by 5.2 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2018, the Turkish Statistical Institute said on Monday.

According to the data released by the agency, the gross domestic product (GDP) by production approach at current prices is estimated to increase by 20.4 percent in the second quarter and hit 884 billion Turkish liras (about 137.1 billion U.S. dollars.

Regarding the activities that make up the GDP, the total value added by the agricultural sector decreased by 1.5 percent, while the industrial and construction sectors contributed by 4.3 percent and 0.8 percent respectively, and the service sector added value by 8 percent, the agency said.

The data also showed that the country's economy expanded by 7.4 percent in 2017, matching figures released previously.

Turkey is still reeling from a currency crisis, the result of its own economic woes and ongoing disputes with the United States on an array of issues.
