U.S. trade deficit widens in May

WASHINGTON, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. trade deficit widened to 55.5 billion U.S. dollars in May, up 4.3 billion dollars from the revised April reading of 51.2 billion dollars, the U.S. Department of Commerce said Wednesday.

U.S. exports in May increased to 210.6 billion dollars, 4.2 billion dollars more than in April, while imports rose to 266.2 billion dollars, up 8.5 billion dollars from the previous month, the department said.

Year-over-year, the goods and services deficit increased 15.7 billion dollars, or 6.4 percent, from the same period in 2018.
