TOKYO, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended gains Monday morning on growing hopes for a further rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve to underpin the U.S. economy and on optimism for trade talks.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 106.32 points, or 0.50 percent, from Friday to 21,305.89.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 9.52 points, or 0.62 percent, at 1,546.62.
Insurance, oil and coal product, and retail-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
