CAIRO, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's exports to African states rose by 26.9 percent to reach 4.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2018 compared with 3.7 billion dollars in the previous year, the country's official statistics authority said in a statement on Saturday.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) added that Egypt's imports from African countries registered 2.1 billion dollars in 2018 compared with 1.9 billion dollars in 2017, marking a 15.2-percent increase.
"Egypt's foreign trade with African states recorded 6.9 billion dollars in 2018 compared with 5.6 billion dollars in 2017, marking an increase of 23 percent," according to the CAPMAS statement.
The statement pointed out that Algeria is Egypt's largest African importer and exporter in 2018. Egypt's exports to Algeria hit 977.2 million dollars in 2018 and its imports from Algeria reached 397.7 million dollars in the same year.
Egypt is the current one-year president of the African Union.
