During the first state visit by an Egyptian president to Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1963, the two sides on Wednesday agreed to deepen their traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation.
During their talks on Wednesday in Hanoi, Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang and his visiting counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi reached consensus on strengthening exchanges of delegations at all levels, as well as coordination at regional and international forums of the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement, and Francophone International Organization.
The two presidents also agreed to increase two-way trade to one billion U.S. dollars in the near future, and create more favorable conditions for bilateral cooperation on such spheres as information and telecommunications technology, seaport, shipbuilding, agriculture, and consumer goods production.
After their talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of nine documents regarding bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, sea transport, tourism, culture and fishery.
The documents include a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment and Egypt's Suez Canal Authority.
