TOKYO, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended losses Wednesday morning following a weak lead from Wall Street overnight after subpar corporate earnings and ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision on monetary policy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 211.32 points, or 0.97 percent, from Tuesday to 21,497.99.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 10.85 points, or 0.69 percent, at 1,564.73.

Transportation equipment, rubber product and securities house-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
