TOKYO, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher on Thursday following a solid lead from Wall Street overnight, after a survey on business conditions in the Federal Reserve's key districts showed that economic activity in non-financial service sectors was either steady or improving.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 244.32 points, or 1.18 percent, from Wednesday to 20,893.46.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 16.81 points, or 1.12 percent, at 1,523.62.

Marine transportation, electric equipment and machinery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
