Three Malaysian and two Chinese ports are to become members of the China-Malaysia Port Alliance, Malaysia's Star newspaper reported on Sept 4.
The three Malaysian ports are Kemaman, Kuching and Sabah, and the two Chinese ports are Tianjin and Qingdao, according to Malaysian Minister of Transport Liow Tiong Lai.
With their admission, the alliance will have a total of 21 ports. The alliance was created in April last year to facilitate bilateral trade and logistics development, and turn Malaysia to a regional logistics center within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Liow Tiong Lai said joining the alliance could help improve the ports' infrastructure construction and increase their cargo handling capacity.
