Tokyo stocks open higher on eased U.S.-DPRK geopolitical concerns

TOKYO, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday on easing geopolitical concerns after U.S. President Donald Trump announced he will meet with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 163.49 points, or 0.73 percent, from Thursday to 22,660.67.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 10.35 points, or 0.58 percent, to 1,787.97.

Precision instrument, transportation equipment, and information and communication-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
