The Indian navy has approved a new mission-based deployment plan that involves deploying mission-ready ships and aircraft along critical sea lanes of communications, state-run All India Radio (AIR) said Thursday.
The broadcaster quoting an official release of the Indian Navy said Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba approved the plan on Wednesday on the second day of the ongoing four-day naval commanders' conference in New Delhi.
"These ships are deployed to meet any eventuality across the spectrum of operations ranging from acts of maritime terrorism and piracy to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions," AIR said.
The four-day naval commanders' conference began in Delhi on Tuesday.
The conference, according to a navy spokesman, serves as a platform for institutionalized interaction between the naval commanders and senior government officials, as well as with chiefs of the Indian army and the Indian air force.
