British stocks up 0.69 pct Wednesday

LONDON, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.69 percent, or 49.45 points, to close at 7,228.62 points.

John Wood Group, an international energy services company, soared 5.81 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. GVC Holdings and Kingfisher increased by 5.53 percent and 5.41 percent, respectively.

Sainsbury, a UK-based company principally engaged in grocery and related retailing, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 18.55 percent. Wm Morrison Supermarkets, a chain of supermarkets, dropped 5.31 percent. Hikma Pharmaceuticals, a multinational pharmaceutical company, fell 2.42 percent. Enditem
